ESG at SAPIM

At SAPIM, we are dedicated to environmental responsibility, social impact, and economic viability.

Our commitment to sustainability drives us to reduce our carbon footprint through renewable energy, waste management, and eco-friendly practices like nearshoring and electric vehicles.

We foster a vibrant, inclusive community by prioritizing employee engagement, health, and local support. Additionally, responsible sourcing and transparent governance ensure we operate ethically and sustainably, creating value for all stakeholders and a better future for the planet.

Renewable energy

4000 solar panels in Belgium

In 2024, 27% of our electricity consumption was produced by our own PV panels.

Wastewater management

We are committed to conserving natural resources and promoting sustainable practices. For water management, SAPIM Belgium has implemented an advanced water treatment system to enhance water reuse and significantly reduce water consumption.

Our system purifies and recycles the wastewater from manufacturing, efficiently removing contaminants so it can be used multiple times. This enables to substantially decrease our reliance on external water sources, limits our wastewater discharge that protects ecosystems, and lowers our operating costs which enables further sustainability investments. And we regularly monitor and optimise our system to integrate the latest advances in water treatment technology.

Sapim Belgium holds a zero-discharge certificate to show that all wastewater generated from our processes is collected and transported to an official collector, rather than being discharged into the environment. By adhering to stringent waste management practices, we contribute to protecting local ecosystems and comply with all relevant regulations and legislation.

Closing the loop, with our cardboard packaging

When we use single-use packaging, we look for solutions made from recycled products. At Sapim Belgium we are transitioning to cardboard packaging from Smurfit Kappa, our paper waste collector.

This means we will reuse our own paper waste in our cardboard packaging. Additionally, we now close our boxes with recycled PET-tape which contains recycled plastic bottles (85%). As the PET-tape is 40% thinner than standard tape, it is also more environmentally friendly to transport.

Brass raw materials

We produce brass nipples at SAPIM Belgium and Sapim Taiwan. Unfortunately, the production processes results in large losses of the raw material, for example, a high percentage of scrap comes from drilling the rivets.

To reduce the loss of raw material, we collect all scrap at our production plants for remelting by our supplier and reuse during our process. This ensures that 95% of the purchased raw material is used in our final products.

Code of conduct for suppliers

Our Code of Conduct for suppliers outlines the ethical standards and behaviours that we expect from all our business partners. It serves as a guide for suppliers, helping them to understand our expectations regarding their business practices and interactions with employees, customers, and the community. The Code is a prerequisite for establishing a working relationship with us and we work collaboratively with suppliers to address any issues that may arise.

Whistleblowing policy

As part of our commitment to ethical practices, we have implemented a robust Whistleblowing policy. This provides a secure and confidential channel for employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders to report any unethical behaviour or violations of our Code of Conduct and human rights standards.
